Choosing the Right Training Goggles- Review of 3 Popular Styles of Swim Goggles

May 10,2024 | Maritonia Official Store

For professional athletes, having a great pair of training goggles is essential swimming equipment. A well-fitting, clear, and anti-fog pair of goggles not only provides a comfortable experience but also ensures you have good underwater vision to focus on technical training. When choosing goggles, you need to pay close attention to the following three aspects:

Comfort: The goggles should fit snugly without excessive pressure. Choose a soft frame material that can conform to the curves of your face to avoid discomfort from extended wear. Also, pay attention to the strap and nosepiece design to ensure they can be adjusted for an optimal fit to your facial features.

Fit: The fit of the goggles directly determines their water resistance. If there are gaps around the eye sockets, water will continuously seep in and obscure your vision. Therefore, choose styles with adjustable nosepieces and straps to ensure a complete seal in all environments.

Clarity: The goggle lenses need to maintain high light transmittance to provide a clear, unobstructed view of the pool bottom. Some goggle lenses also have anti-fog and UV coatings to maintain ideal vision in sunny and humid conditions.

Review of Three Popular Goggle Styles

This review covers three small-frame training goggle styles from the brands View, Arena, and Maritonia. The View and Arena models have relatively larger frames, leaning more towards a casual style, while the Maritonia has a smaller frame size for reduced water resistance. All three goggle styles have removable and replaceable nosepieces to meet individual fit needs.

In terms of gasket design, View and Arena use wider silicone gaskets that better conform to facial contours, providing superior comfort. For the strap design, View and Arena use the traditional single-strap style, while Maritonia has a dual-strap design that is more convenient for athletes with long hair to wear.

The strap adjustment methods also differ. View and Arena adjust at the strap sides, while Maritonia has an adjustable buckle at the back of the head, providing different personal experiences.

Overall, the designs of all three goggles consider the needs of professional athletes, offering thoughtful details like replaceable nosepieces and user-friendly straps for a better experience. Choose the option that best suits your facial features and habits to greatly enhance comfort and focus during training.

Lens Performance Testing:

We first tested the clarity of the lenses underwater. After use, water droplets formed on the View and Arena lenses, while the Maritonia lens had a uniform water film without droplet accumulation, providing a clear unobstructed view.

Next, we conducted an anti-fog test by laying the three goggles flat and exposing them to steam. Unfortunately, the Arena goggles experienced severe fogging during the test. View performed slightly better than Arena in terms of anti-fog, but still had some fogging issues. Surprisingly, the Maritonia goggle lenses did not fog up at all during the test, demonstrating exceptional anti-fog performance.

Through these two tests, we can see that not only does the Maritonia's small frame design reduce water resistance, but its lens also demonstrated superior waterproof and anti-fog capabilities among the three options. If you are a professional athlete pursuing ultimate underwater vision and focus, the Maritonia is absolutely the most recommended choice.
